Music

We'll be using this page to talk about the music we like, shows we've experienced, artists we recommend, and more. We've been to a lot of shows over the years, and we'd like to share some of the experiences while we still remember them.

Keller Williams

Disclaimer: I'm not a musician, but I'm a terrific audience member.

For the first post about music, I'd like to recognize Keller Williams. Not only is he a ridiculously talented and creative artist, but his live shows are always so fun. His song Double Decker Double Wide is the song that hooked me, but it's the live show experiences that have kept me on that hook for so long. Our first live Keller show was in Tallahassee at (then named) Cow Haus; I believe it was the Spring of 2002, just before our first Bonnaroo. That experience was, at the risk of sounding cheesy, life changing for me. He has so much fun on stage, you can just feel it. Those shows are a great reason for a road trip. Since both Nate and I LOVE road trips, we usually try to plan long weekends around Keller's schedule.

We've been to so many of his live shows, we lost count long ago. I'd say we've probably seen him more than any other single artist. I do remember our 30th show was in the same location as the first, but it was 8 years later and the venue had been renamed. The crowds at these events are always filled with a variety fun people, and we've met some amazing ones who have continued to be our friends through the years.

Even though we haven't been fans from the beginning of Keller's career (only because we didn't know about him yet), we have been for a long time. I love how diverse his portfolio has gotten in that time, and he's a talent magnet with his side projects. His ever-changing arsenal of music toys he pulls out on stage never fails to impress. The looping transitions are just so seemless in the recordings that watching him work is a real treat. KW shows are where I actually bother to fight the elbows to get a spot on the rail because I don't want to miss anything. Reader, if you've never been to a Keller Williams show, solo or with a side project, you would be doing yourself a big service by going to one closest to you as soon as you conveniently can.
